The word ‘law’ is derived from ‘lag’ which means something even or fixed. It is also linked to word ‘jus’ which means bonds. Law is a guide to human behaviour. It is produced from human action, interaction and behaviour. Law those not grow in vacuum. It is an extension of society. Law is the demand of the people.
Nexus between law and society: A nexus is need for law to be successful. If the law is beyond the need and mental capacity of public it is not going to successful. E.g. Dowry Prohibition Act.
Law as demand of society: Usually law is what the public wants. The amendment after NIRBHAYA rape case was the demand of the society. The demand lead to J.S. Verma Committee and 2013 criminal law amendments.
Law and Morality: Morality is based on good conscious and will. Law and morality are very closely related. The basis of good law must be morality as to promote good life. Law is mirror of moral progress of an country.
So, law and society go hand in hand. A society without law is in chaos and law which is against society (will) is not a good law.
